DIY: Snowball pom poms
A special tutorial to make pom poms for all your winter crafts (including our yarn tapestry)
This is a special tutorial to make fork pom poms that look a little bit like snowballs! These special pom poms were used in a very special yarn tapestry to celebrate the arrival of winter, which in Hebrew is pronounced as horef (winter)!
I’ve always loved making pom poms. They were a favorite childhood craft. My sister and I used them in so many things, necklaces, garlands, keychains, funny creatures with little googly eyes and felt feet. We would have a contest to see who could make the biggest pom pom and wrap yards and yards of yarn right on our hand (no special tools other than scissors were needed)!
These “snowball” pom poms are much tinier. They’re just such a cute size that’s made with a fork (my special pom-pom tool), and they’re the perfect size for incorporating into a our yarn wall tapestry.
Pom poms are so fun for all kinds of winter crafts, and simple enough for grown-ups and children alike. You’re invited to make your own tiny pom poms this winter. So grab a fork, and let’s get crafting!
Snowball Pom Poms
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own pom poms:
White yarn
Fork
Scissors
1. Wrap the white yarn around a fork about 70 times.
2. Cut a 12” strand of yarn and thread it through the middle of the fork, pull and tie the ends in a tight knot.
3. Slip it off your fork (make sure the middle tied strand of yarn is tight and secure).
3. Snip the loops open, and trim it up into a ball (snowball)!
They’re easy enough to make a flurry of snowball pom poms!
You can use them on our yarn tapestry, and for fun winter crafting!
