DIY: Edible dreidel
A sweet dreidel treat - made with a kiss!
Hanukkah celebrations wouldn’t complete without a handful of dreidels!
A dreidel is a four sided spinning top, with a Hebrew letter on each side, nun, gimmel, hay, shin - which stand for the words, Nes Gadol Hayah Sham (a great miracle happened there). In Hebrew, a dreidel is called sevivon.
One of our favorite Hanukkah traditions is to not only play the dreidel game, but to also make yummy edible dreidels! These sweet treats are extra special because they’re the first food craft I ever did with my girls. When they were young, we called them dreidel kisses - because they’re made with marshmallows and chocolate kisses (and nosey kisses)!
You only need four ingredients to make your own. So let’s go make some dreidel kisses!
Edible Dreidel
For each dreidel you will need:
Pretzel
Marshmallow
Frosting
Chocolate Kiss (unwrapped)
Sprinkles (optional)
Here’s how to make it!
1. Grab a pretzel stick.
2. Gently pierce the top of the marshmallow with the pretzel stick until it is secure and snug in the center of the marshmallow.
3. Use a craft stick or butter knife to place a dab (or glob) of frosting on the bottom of the marshmallow. It will act as glue.
4. Place an unwrapped chocolate kiss on top of the frosting (glue).
There you have it, and edible dreidel that will look like this…
Edible dreidels are extra fun dipped in sprinkles. To do this, cover the four sides of the marshmallow in frosting. Hold it gently by the pretzel stick and slowly move it in a circular direction in a shallow bowl filled with sprinkles.
When it is covered with sprinkles on all sides, add another dab of frosting to the bottom of marshmallow and place a chocolate kiss on top of the frosting!
Edible dreidels are fun to make with Grandma…
and mommy!
Make a lot to share with family and friends.
When you’re ready to eat them, you can say a blessing if you’d like! In Judaism, there are blessings you can say for almost every moment of the day - when you tie your shoe for the very first time, when you see a snowflake or when you eat food - like edible dreidels!
