Visit a honeybee farm
Honeybees bring sweetness to the New Jewish Year
On Rosh Hashanah, apples taste extra sweet because we dip them in honey! A fun way to thank the honeybees for their honey is to learn more about them by visiting at a bee farm! When children visit honey bees, they are learning about the Jewish value Ma’aseh B’reishit (Miracle of Creation).
Here are a five fun facts that we learned from Beekeeper Karen at Lukas Nursery & Butterfly Encounter in Oviedo, Florida.
Bees live in large groups called colonies.
Honeybees harvest nectar and pollen from flowering plants.
Bees have 5 eyes and 6 legs.
The male bees do not sting. They are called drones.
The female bees are the worker bees. They do all the tasks to keep the hive healthy and alive.
It was exciting for the children see so many bees up close! If you visit Lukas Nursery in Oviedo, Florida, please give Beekeeper Karen a sweet hello from us!
