Welcome to our cheerful picnic themed tablescape for Rosh Hashanah, complete with baskets, apples and honey bees

Do you have someone in your family whose an incredible entertainer? In our family, it’s my mom. Since Jewish holidays begin with a festive meal, she joyfully celebrates each holiday with an elaborate table setting. Where I have one set of dishes (white, but very pretty), she has dish sets and glassware in multiple styles and colors, complete with linens to match. My dad must have loved it too since he was always supportive in her buying something new and helping her rearrange a cabinet to make room for just one more.

Over the years, I’ve taken a simpler approach and when it came time to setting our holiday table, I always kept my girls’ in mind. In fact, if you told me that I could only decorate the children’s table for every holiday for the rest of my life, I would probably be pretty happy.

For this Rosh Hashanah, we are full speed ahead with a picnic theme, which I think is a lovely happy medium for grown-ups and children alike. Our picnic has an abundance of apples, honey bees, white plates and lots of baskets filled with apples and flowers.

Take a look!

Over the years, I might have teased my mom a time or two about all her dish sets and linens, but something really special happened. She passed down her love of entertaining to my oldest daughter, and Stefanie even inherited her good china and most beautiful linens. Like my mom, she’s already incredible at planning fancy parties. It makes my heart happy that she shares this passion with her grandma. This is the Jewish value L’dor Vador (from generation to generation) and how true family traditions begin.

What’s most important to me in planning a festive holiday dinner is creating a wonderful memory for my family. I hope my girls will always love picnics, and even have a Rosh Hashanah picnic one day with their own family.
