DIY: Apple and honeybee pom-pom necklace
Create a special keepsake for the Jewish New Year
A special way to incorporate apples and honey into your Rosh Hashanah celebration is by crafting a fuzzy apple and honeybee pom-pom necklace.
I knew when I saw a red pom-pom garland at a craft store that it would be perfect to deconstruct to make into apple necklaces. (If you don’t have a pom-pom garland, you can learn to make pom-poms here).
After separating all the pom-poms from the string, I set to work making them into little apple necklaces. Here’s what I did:
First, I laced a wooden bead through a long strand of yarn, folded the yarn in half and put both ends together into a wide-eye sewing needle.
Next, I pulled the needle up through the bottom of the pom-pom and out through the top to create a necklace.
Then I seperated yarn on top of the pom-pom to glue a “stem,” a tiny honeybee and a little felt leaf.
That’s it! Now you have a little apple and honeybee pom-pom necklace! Now it’s time to string some beads!vI think it’s fun for children to have a wide variety of beads in different sizes, textures and shapes. We used pony and wood beads, deconstructed flower leis and cut-up bits of colored straws. Taping up the ends of the yarn will keep them from fraying and make the yarn studier for little fingers to stringing the beads.
